In the age of glorified teen superstars like Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, there is a modest 17-year-old Hillsboro native making waves for a new generation of music fans. Savannah Outen has earned several top 30 hits on Radio Disney network and is a growing sensation in a fan base that reaches from Canada to Switzerland. In March 2007, she began posting videos of herself singing on YouTube. About 58 million hits later, she’s working on a television pilot and gearing up for major tours with some notable names. “Playing more shows is the best way for me to get myself out there,” she says. It all began on Christmas morning at age 13, when her wishes were granted and she received a guitar. That day she began to teach herself how to play and the guitar is her main instrument today. “She stuck with it ever since she got it,” says her mother, Lisa Outen. |

What were you most excited about when returning to school every year? I was most excited to see all of my friends and meet my new teachers. It’s always fun to show up to the first day of a new year. What did you fear most about the first day of school? When I had my first day of school, I was always really nervous. But there is no reason to be. Just be yourself, be friendly and have fun! Do you have any advice on getting rid of the back-to-school jitters? Wear a rocking outfit that’ll give you confidence, and walk into school with a group of your close friends. Who was your favorite teacher? I had SO many favorite teachers! One was my 4th grade teacher, Mrs.Skipper! I also loved my Leadership teacher from Middle School. His name was Mr. Debois. He taught me life long lessons that I’ll never forget.. What is your favorite school memory? My favorite school memory was being in Leadership. We got to be involved with all of the school dances, carnivals, and events. It was so much fun to be behind the scenes. I was an officer so I was always in charge of decorations. Do you recall the first thing wanted to be when you grew up? I’ve always wanted to be a singer, but I went through a stage where I wanted to be an ice skater. Do you have any embarrassing moments from school? When I was trying out to be an officer for my Leadership class, I dressed up as Napoleon from Napoleon Dynamite and did the whole dance.. It was so funny and very embarrassing. I also tripped going up the stairs in High School while talking to my major crush. Where did you like to shop for back-to-school clothes? I loved shopping in Target, Limited Too & Abercrombie when I was younger. Anything comfortable, sparkly and cute was my favorite! |
