StayMyrtleBeach.Com is happy to announce the winner of American Idol Season 6, Jordin Sparks will be performing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Sparks won American Idol in 2007 at the age of 17. Sparks performance will be part of a concert on Saturday May 29th. The live concert will be part of a series of events, Military Appreciation Days, to honor enlisted military and veterans during the holiday weekend. Other acts in the concert include Disney channel musicians Mitchell Musso, Jasmine Richards, and Savannah Outen.

The event will be held at the site of the former Myrtle Square Mall and is aimed to bring kids, especially those 13 and younger, and their families to the area. Saturday events for Military Appreciation Days, include a parade on Ocean Boulevard, cuisine cook-off, family picnic, and an assortment of activities at the former Myrtle Square Mall site including celebrity meet-and-greets with D Nathan Kress of “iCarly,” Mitchell Musso of “Hannah Montana,” Jasmine Richards of “Camp Rock,” Drake Bell of “Drake and Josh,” Tiffany Thornton of “Sonny with a Chance” and Debby Ryan of “Suite Life on Deck” and performances by headliners Mitchell Musso of “Hannah Montana” and Jordin Sparks of “American Idol” (season 6 winner) as well as Outen, Bell and Richards.

Other events planned throughout the weekend all over Myrtle Beach include a 5K run/walk on the former Air Force Base, a golf tournament at Whispering Pines, kids fishing tournament, a games competition, recruiter expo, exhibits area, a laser show, a museum ribbon cutting and fireworks to conclude the celebration Monday night. The City of Myrtle Beach in conjunction with PBGA, LLC are sponsoring the events.

The Military Appreciation Days are part of a number of events and festivals including 2 food and wine festivals, the Taste! Gourmet Trade Show May 14-16 at the Myrtle Beach convention center, and Coastal Uncorked May 16-23 with participating restaurants and locations throughout Myrtle Beach, a beach music festival May 15 as part of the grand opening of the new Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, and a Christian music festival to be being held during the month of May.  The goal of these events is to bring families to the Myrtle Beach area during a time that has been traditionally dominated by bikers.
